Energy Lines: Parallelareal Variable

It is the aim of Eastside Projects to exhibit work that re-configures the gallery space, moving away from disengaged forms of display to promote active visitors. The latest work on show by artist Gunilla Klingberg embodies these intentions.

Lines of energy intersect the gallery in this site specific piece: Parallelareal Variable. Electromagnetic curtains splice the space in to grids and appear fixed, until movement through one veil to another disturbs the structure, allowing the work to hover between a state of rigidity and dynamism.

The grid is a representation of an unconventional scientific discovery by scientist Manfred Curry. Curry lines are bands of energy that criss-cross the earth forming positive and negative electromagnetic intersecting points that obviously cannot be seen by the naked eye. The iterative patterns influence Klingberg in her portrayal of this phenomena, taking over the gallery. She enables viewers to experience the scientific unknown through very tangible means, controlling visitor choreography through the space as we create our own disturbances within the structure.
